Unbreakable

"She told me God had given her enough. She couldn't take any more." This is a quote from someone else's blog post a few days ago. I couldn't get it out of my mind, so I guess that means I should write about it.

This quote made me think of a friend who’s entire life seems to have been one difficulty after another; beginning the day she was born. It took several months for the doctors to figure it out, but eventually she was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta…commonly known as brittle bone disease. She has a photo album documenting all the broken bones she suffered during her childhood….a childhood that was less than ideal for other reasons. At the age of fourteen, she lost an eye during a schoolyard snowball fight, right before she was to have a corneal transplant to correct keratoconus, another problem she was born with. There is no guarantee that a transplant would be successful, so to risk surgery on her remaining eye would possibly mean losing the vision she has left.
Besides all of these serious issues and limitations that my friend deals with on a daily basis, she also seems to be a magnet for less serious, often funny incidents. I guess I didn’t mention that my friend is also a foster and adoptive mom...which is how we met….but that’s a whole other story. So, early one Saturday morning she called me, crying about her hair. My husband could only hear my side of the conversation, so when I said, “You let your foster daughter cut your hair?!” the bed suddenly began to shake….he was laughing so hard, but trying to be quiet. He was accustomed to hearing about the crazy predicaments she found herself in….so much so that we had nic named her Murphy….because if anything could possibly happen, it would happen to her!
Many times, I’ve said, “You should write a book!” But she just says she’s not a writer, and no one would ever believe so many things could happen to one person. Well, lately, I’m thinking….maybe WE should write a book. I’ve always liked to read true stories of people going through a tragedy and coming out victorious, their faith stronger than ever. Hmmmm…..here’s a another quote….this one from my friend, Murphy, “God will never give you too much, he’ll carry you through it all.” Last night a title for her book came to me… "Unbreakable" What do you think? Is it a best seller?!

**I just remembered there's a movie called "Unbreakable" with a character who has OI, so....maybe "Unbroken" would be better!!**

AMEN DEB!!! Can't wait to read it! What an ispiration I bet it will be. We have way to many whiney Christians nowadays. I have a dear friend with cancer now and she too has gone through many trials and she IS going to write a book. The title sooo appropriate.. I'll tell you later.

But, as you have said..unbreakable..God is ALWAYS there in the midst of the fire..and he DOES deliver..in his time and after HIS work is accomplished.

God bless you and your sweet friend..

Hope, Thanks for the encouragement!
Given that my friend is extremely breakable, physically speaking, I thought "unbreakable" fit perfectly.
I look forward to hearing more about your friend's book!

Wish I were a writer. I have so many things down on paper but would not know how to begin.
But since Murphy can't write You do it about her. I think it would be a good seller.
