I'm just kidding...but it did happen and it was hilarious! I guess you'd have to know Bro. Sam Gipp, and you'd have to know Jerry, and you'd probably have to know that Bro. Gipp has been preaching at Camp meeting for almost as long as Jerry can remember to find this as funny as we did. The funniest thing about it was that it didn't catch me at all by surprise. Bro. Gipp was talking about people in church getting offended, and was giving some examples.....such as, "That Sunday school teacher told my junior to shut up." I think the words, 'shut up Jerry,' went through my mind before Bro. Gipp even said it! Jerry later told someone, "That was my two minutes of fame!"

Actually the highlight was last night during testimony time when Jerry said, "I just want you to know that I surrendered my life to the Lord."

Another highlight was finally hearing someone preach a message on something I found in the Bible several years ago, and wondered why I'd never heard it in a message....It's about 'Simon's son' but I'll save that for another post!

We didn't get many pictures, but I'll try to post something later this week.

Busy.....

......with Camp Meeting this week. mountain moving faith.

You’re strong when I am weak. Lord, I believe.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During the evening service on July 8, 2007, our Pastor had preached a message called “Marah.” As I recall, the main point of the message was that we should look for something ‘sweet’ when we are in the midst of Marah. I’m sure that some day, I’ll write that song too, but at the time my mind kept coming back to a particular part of the message. Pastor had read the account of the man whose son had a dumb spirit. Even the disciples failed to help this man and his son. It occurred to me that if this man had been like many people, he would have used that as an excuse to turn away from Jesus, but no, he still sought out the Lord. As I reread the different accounts in the gospels, I couldn’t help but think what great faith that man had. Then I realized that this is also where Jesus spoke to his disciples about having faith that can move a mountain. I thought, “Lord, I want that faith that moves mountains!”
Then I decided to look for other examples of that kind of faith. I read about the woman with the issue of blood. She had been to all the doctors, and had spent all of her money trying to find someone who could heal her. Even after twelve years she still held out hope. When she heard about Jesus she knew that if she could just get close enough to touch but his clothes, she would be made whole. That is mountain moving faith! Lord, I believe; help thou my unbelief!
As much as I believe God’s word to be true, there are still situations when I have to say, “Help thou mine unbelief.” Will I ever come to the point of believing that through faith I can move a mountain? Oh how I want that faith!
Mark 9:17,18,23,24 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Matthew 17:18-20 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
Mark 5:25-29,34 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of physicians, and spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Several years ago, I had begun meeting with a group of ladies from my church. The purpose was to hopefully lose a little weight, but the emphasis of our meetings was on seeing what the Bible had to say about different subjects related to food, water, and our health. Lib Parks led our little group, and she began by saying we were on a journey together. Each week she would give us words to look up, and during our daily Bible reading we were to pick out a verse that blessed us, and one to praise the Lord. I’m not sure that I lost much weight, but I did enjoy the group, and it helped to have a particular topic to get me studying my Bible. The very first morning my Bible study turned into, “Along This Journey,” which became the theme song for the few months that our group met. Because the original song was quite short, I eventually added two more verses.

I’m sure ‘life is a journey’, is a metaphor that has been used many times by many writers, but there is a reason for that; quite simply, it’s true! Life really is a journey, and for the believer, it’s a daily walk with the Lord, learning to trust him in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. I’ve traveled many miles along this journey, and I’d like to say that I’ve finally arrived; that I rise bright and early every morning, committing my day to the Lord, seeking guidance through his word before I do anything else. I’d like to say that, but I can’t. What I can tell you is that even though I’m saved by grace, and spiritually I’m seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, my flesh is still alive and well. Too often I allow that lazy flesh to take control, even though I know it grieves my Father’s heart. Following the Lord is a decision to die daily to self, and I have no excuse to offer for not doing so. All I can do is confess my sin, admit my lack of resolve, and go on, knowing that my Lord is faithful even when I am not. He’s always right there, waiting to teach me, to transform me, to shelter me, and to bless me. He is my strength along this journey, and I realize more every day just how much I need him to make it through.

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Romans 12:1,2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

Galatians 2:5,6 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Visit Songs Of and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Psalm 94:18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.

I wrote the ‘original version’ of this song in 1996, after a conversation with a friend. Over the years I made a few revisions to the lyrics and eventually changed the melody, but the message behind the song remained the same.
Many years prior to it’s writing, I had read a book in which the author used the phrase, ‘the misty flats.’ I remember nothing else about the book, but I sure have visited some misty flats. I hate to admit it, but I’ve spent far too much of my journey in that very place. In spite of the fact that I know my way out, and could be walking beside still waters, or strolling through green pastures, perhaps even standing on a mountain top, I end up wandering aimlessly, wondering why the joy has gone from my life. I get preoccupied with just living day to day, and I wander off the trail, neglecting my Bible and forgetting to pray. I get so far away from the Lord that I convince myself that I’m going through a valley, when in reality I’m really just flopping around in a muddy ditch. I may feel like my circumstances are dire, but it’s my frame of mind that’s in need of an adjustment. I’m looking at things from my own earthly perspective rather than setting my eyes on things above. It’s my own sin; my pride, my selfish attitude, and my laziness that has put a black cloud over my head, and blocked my view of the Lord.

When I stay on the right path, I may encounter real valleys and storms, but I know that if I just keep heading straight, my Lord will bring me through. It’s when I try to side step, that I find myself back on the flats, and I know that one more misstep could take me into the mud and the mire of the slough. Thankfully, my Lord, is gracious and long suffering, and I’m only one prayer away from getting my heart right. Somehow, he nudges me back to the path he’s set out for me, and I step out into the warmth of his light. As I thank him yet again for his mercy and grace, I wonder how I ever settled for the misty flats.

P.S. We've decided that our kids don't need any pets, since the neighbour has more than enough to go around. We have had up to ten cats and kittens visit our yard at one time, but last night they were making themselves right at home, so I took these pictures through the window. I knew if I opened the door they would scatter too quickly!

There goes one already!

This last photo was taken another evening when the kittens were out for a stroll. he’s waiting there I know.

In my secret place, down on my knees, I seek my Saviour’s face.

As he draws me back to his heart,

he shows me awesome mercy and grace!

~

No angels, no Heavenly voices, no lightning flash from above.

Just peace and joy unspeakable, immersed in my Saviour’s love!

~

Immersed in my Saviour's love.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brother Richard Sweat preached a message about the three places we can be as Christians. The first is touching the hem of Jesus’ garment, the second, is walking hand in hand with Jesus, while the third is on his bosom, where there is no doubt or fear. I took those thoughts and combined with my own experience, I soon had another song.
Someone witnessing to me, prior to my salvation, had told me that something happens when God saves you. I know now that the change spoken of was the one that takes place within the heart, but at the time, I really didn’t understand what this meant. I had this idea in the back of my mind that something spectacular should happen at the moment I prayed and asked Jesus to save me. I was worried that I wouldn’t have this ‘experience.’ That was one of the things that held me back. I kept putting the Holy Spirit off, even though I knew that I needed salvation, and I longed for peace. When I couldn’t resist any longer, and I finally repented of my sins, asking Jesus to be my Saviour, there were no heavenly voices, and no lightning, but something did indeed happen. When that burden lifted, I felt such peace!
As time went on, and I tried my best to be and to do what I thought my Lord required of me, there still seemed to be something missing. It wasn’t until I surrendered my will that I found that close relationship that I had been longing for. But in spite of knowing what I must do to stay in that right relationship with my Lord, I still find myself straying time and again. But no matter how many times I wander off, I always find Jesus waiting for me when I come back to that secret place of prayer. And every time, I marvel at the mercy and grace of my Lord.
Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory;
Psalm 32:7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Songs Of Faith
Happy Father's Day....
<span style="color: black; Some have been when he’s had to bring me through a trial to draw me back to himself, and other times, he’s allowed me to see him in all of his glory, and worship at his feet. Still others seem to encompass all of those in one amazing trip to the mountains!
On one particular occasion, the Lord gave me a one of a kind mountain top experience! I'd been visiting with a lady who was very enthusiastically talking about her faith and her experiences. She seemed to be so busy doing what she felt the Lord had called her to do. I went home that evening realizing that I had lost that zeal, and feeling like I was doing very little to serve my Lord and Saviour.
The previous day, my pastor had preached on the reasons God gives mountain top experiences. Although I saw no mountains on my horizon, I started reading through the notes I had taken during the message, and soon a song began to form. But somewhere in the midst of writing, I felt the need to just be in a quiet place with the Lord. This isn’t easy in a house full of kids, so my only option was the bathroom. I went in and knelt down and began to pray, not really knowing what I was praying about. I just knew my dry heart and spirit needed to hear from my Lord, and soon I was on my face. I truly don’t recall the words I prayed, but the Lord responded to the cry of my heart, and my longing for his touch.
Later that day, when Brian came home from work, I said, “Did you know there’s a mountain in our bathroom?” I’m sure he thought I’d lost it, but the mountaintop I experienced as I lay on our bathroom floor was more like a mountain range than one individual peak! I truly had been to the mountain with Jesus, and the song I wrote that day flowed from my heart as freely as the tears flowing down my cheeks.
Soon after this, we had a family reunion, where I was able to spend time with a cousin that I hadn’t seen since we were teenagers. In spite of there being a house full of people, the Lord gave me the opportunity to witness to her for more than an hour. I knew that this never could have happened had I not first met Jesus on that mountain. He knew I needed to go there to find my way back to his grace, before he could ever use me to reach someone else!
Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went up into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah;and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
Matthew 17:1,5 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
2 Peter 5:5c,6 for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
That's My Boy!
Justin playing piano.
Now if he would just learn to play my songs.
Visit me at Songs Of Faith.
Congratulations.....
...on your graduation, David! I don't know all the details, but the Lord does, so I just ask that you pray for Nicolas, Carla & Lee, and their families.
Second - tomorrow we have to take our little foster boy, Seffy, in to a dentist to have his 4 front teeth removed. He's been on an antibiotic to clear up an abcess, so is not a happy camper. Please pray that all goes well, and that he recovers quickly. He will be moving on to a more long term placement in the next couple of weeks. He was already to have moved, but we wanted to take care of his teeth first. Our first year in the new house, spring arrived early, and soon our entire yard was flooded. I told people I felt like I was living on the ark! But once the initial spring flood subsided we were able to get out and cultivate the ground and seed grass. Things were going well, until we got a May snow fall, and soon after that the rains came. One morning I went down to the basement to wake the kids, and to my shock and dismay, I found water streaming into the one bedroom that we had managed to get carpeted. Soon water was coming from other parts of the basement as well, and all we could do was vacuum it up and dump it back outside. During the long days of fighting the never ending flood waters pouring into our basement, I sometimes wondered how we would ever get through. Brian would stay up all night, sucking up the water every half hour, and then have to go to work the next morning, when I would take over vacuuming. After three days of this, we decided to just move all of our furniture to higher ground and wait out the flood.
Most of the words to this song came to me as we fought the flood in our basement. It was devastating to see all of our hard work being ruined, and at the time I felt so alone, that we might as well have been living on Noah’s ark. But when we can’t find a friend, and the storm isn’t letting up, Jesus is always there; he never let’s us down.
Matthew 7:24,25 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon the house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Isaiah 59:19 When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
Psalm 138:7a Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me:
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care on him; for he careth for you.
Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let you requests be made known unto God.
*Listen to more songs at Songs Of Faith.
Do Me a Favour?
If I've been neglecting this blog, it's because I'm spending my limited spare time working on my other blog.....Songs Of Faith is set up as a blog, but it's really more like a website....a place to post my lyrics, and more recently the music to go with them. I've tried several different ways to upload music, and have finally found one that doesn't limit how many songs I can upload, and doesn't have a lot of problems. So, lately, whenever I have time, I've been either working on creating music with Band In a Box, or uploading completed or previously recorded songs.
Now that I have Songs Of Faith set up so that people can not only read the lyrics, but hear the music....and maybe even sing along, I'd like to promote it. Thanks to a post by Sharon, I figured out how to create a button for my blog....which is where the favour comes in. I'm asking my blogging friends to add my button to their side bar to give Songs Of Faith a little more exposure on the web. You can get the code for my button by visiting Songs Of Faith...it's on the right side bar.
Look for the code under this picture:
And while you're there, I hope you'll spend some time listening. My prayer is that my music will be a blessing to others, and bring glory to God.
Thanks all!
Putting One Foot In Front Of The Other
My Mom always says, "You can move a mountain with a wheel barrow...just put one foot in front of the other." And it's true! Every week we get a little more accomplished on our house and yard. This week we got a load of gravel on our parking area and lane....and yes, we moved a lot of it with a wheel barrow. It looks so much nicer now....no more mud!
Brian also put in some posts with solar lights along our flowerbed.
In the winter we'll exchange the lights for reflectors.
I think this might help divert a disaster.!
It's cloudy again today....rain is on the way.
